Rural Diabetes Education & Screening: Need of the Hour:Dr. Sunil Gupta

“Rural India” is rapidly progressing urbanisation .Thus there is an increase in number of diabetes and allied ailments. Moreover, there are “Ignorant” towards there management ,which increase the risk of complications. 8-10% of adult people in rural areas have Type 2 diabetes but more than 50% are still undetected and unaware of diabetes. Dr.Gupta informed that Rural Screening & awareness is a must for detection and prevention of complication of diabetes.

Diabetes Care Foundation of India (DCFI) & Diabetes Care n’ Research Centre (DCRC) under the able guidance of Dr. Sunil Gupta have recently organised four “Hello Diabetes” Education cum Screening Program in rural areas of Nagpur district with local NGOs.

A team of Diabetes Educators along with various local organisations, organised the program, at Kalmeshwar in collaboration with “ME 2 WE” Foundation, at Umred in collaboration with WCL and at Kamptee & Dabha in collaboration with Sparsh Multispeciality Hospital & Healing Centre.

These programs were attended by >500 people. Blood glucose screening followed by audio visual education program was conducted which was addressed on Lifestyle Management by Dr.Sunil Gupta Director Diabetes Care n’ Research Centre & Mrs.Kavita Gupta  Dietitian & Diabetes Educator.

The team of Diabetes educators of Diabetes Care n’ Research Centre, Mr. Vivek Nagrare, Dieticians Mrs.Vinita Mehta, Mrs.Parvinder Kaur Bamrah, Ms.Monika Kalindi, Ms.Shraddha Fulzade, Ms.Shruti Aswale, Ms.Malvika Fulwani; Sisters Mrs.Panchsheela Moon, Ms.Karuna Kamble, Ms.Komal Gajbhiye, Mr.Prashant Ramteke, Mr.Prashant Jaiswal, Mr.Pankaj Walde, Mr.Vishal Patil worked hard for the success of the program.
