“One in every 7 pregnant women has Gestational Diabetes mellitus i.e diabetes in pregnancy. These women are at higher risk of complications like miscarriages, congenital malformation in babies or sometime intrauterine death. Similarly children born to these mother are at higher risk to develop diabetes in adult life n women with GDM are also at very high risk to develop diabetes in the next 5-10 years. Thus early diagnosis and treatment take care of two generations. Awareness about GDM amongst gynaecologists, physician n society at large is important. Insulin is the best treatment for tight control of blood glucose in pregnancy”, informed Dr Sunil Gupta during his deliberation at 11th National DIPSI (Diabetes In Pregnancy Study Group in India) held on 20th and 21st February 2016 attended by 780 medical professionals.
